MORE HISTORY

Weathering the shock of the Oil Embargoes and unpredictable component cost fluctuations of the 70’s, South Coast not only survived, but also was able to grow. Operations continued to expand with the acquisition of the Wallisville Road Site from Olin.

The 80’s were a period of rapid growth for South Coast not only in Automotive Lubricants and in Industrial lubricants, but also in Chemical packaging, processing, blending, warehousing and terminaling. The Wallisville Road facility expanded its lubricant packaging capability to include smaller containers. Subsequent expansions in chemical blending and low flash packaging, sub-micron filtration and an IBC filling facility followed. The Port Terminal Facility expanded its operations to include blending of Fuel Additives as well as its growing chemical distribution business. In 1988, South Coast acquired the assets of Pacer Lubricants, which later became the Pacer Lubricants Division of South Coast Terminals, LP.

In 1983 South Coast won its first Military bid and became a major supplier of Military Specification Oils to the Department of Defense.  SCT manufactured and distributed, Heavy Duty Diesel Oils, Steam Turbine Oils, Transportation Gear Lubricants, High Output Shipboard Diesel Lubricating Oils, “Arctic” Grade Heavy Duty Oils, and Automatic Transmission / Hydraulic Fluids to 350 Defense Supply Centers around the Country. In 1991 and 1992, during Operation “Desert Storm”, South Coast made a significant contribution as a supplier of Heavy Duty Tactical Diesel Lubricating Oils. As a result of its outstanding quality and performance. South Coast was named an “Outstanding and Honored Supplier” by the Department of Defense.

In 1993, the Quality System for the facilities of South Coast Terminals, LP gained registration under ISO9002: 1987 In 1996 the registry was upgraded to ISO9002:1994, and currently, the registration is in transition to ISO9001:2000.

In 1999, South Coast Terminals, LP commercialized its Strang Road facility for the packaging of hazardous chemicals. This operation is a joint venture with Greif Corporation.    As part of the co-development scheme, Greif built a new state-of-the-art drum manufacturing plant that is connected to the filling facility.

In 2001, South Coast continued its expansion with the installation of new facilities to blend Viscosity Index Improvers at its Wallisville Road Site.
